EXHORTATION

DIVISION CONSTITUENT

(Part2: APPEAL1 of 1:10-6:20)

5:1-13  Stop boasting about your being very mature about thinking correctly and about living as God wants while permitting this man who is sinning sexually to meet with you who are believers in Christ. Expel this man from your congregation.  That is, place him outside of your congregation where Satan can harm him, so that he will eventually be saved eternally, and let us celebrate that we have been set free by God to continually live without sinning like this so that it affects us.

grounds

5:1-8   People have reported to us that there is a man among you who is having sexual relations with his step-mother. It is disgraceful that while you know this you continue being proud. You should have mourned that such a person was sinning, with the result that you would have removed him from your congregation. Therefore you should live purely by expelling this man and your thinking proudly.

The following could be added to the theme statement:  As a congregation, be without sinning by not being arrogant/be without sinning by not permitting a sinning person to worship among you.

JT2211229: Do as you see fit.

5:-5  People have reported to us that there is a man among you who is having sexual relations in a way that even unbelievers do not act. It is disgraceful that while you know this you continue being proud. I have decided that, when you are gathered together, and when I am with you in spirit, and when the Lord is with you, you must turn this man over to Satan, so that this man will quit desiring to act evilly, so that his spirit may be saved when our Lord Jesus returns to earth to judge all people.

The words "for I myself" could be added to the theme statement, just before "I have decided that."
