PEAK
PARAGRAPH CONSTITUENT 6:1-6
NEG EXHORTATION
6:1a I am appalled that when any believer among you accuses another believer of acting unjustly toward him,
6:1b καὶ οὐχὶ ἐπὶ τῶν ἁγίων;
6:1b he does not ask other believers among you to resolve the matter justly.
6:1c Τολμa/| ...
6:1c Instead he dares to ask people who are not believers to judge the matter [RHQ].
SOLUTION
6:2-4
EXHORTATION
grounds
6:2a You surely need to keep in mind [RHQ]
6:2b ὅτι οἱ ἅγιοι τὸν κόσμον κρινοῦσιν;
6:2b that we believers will judge those who do not believe in Christ [MTY] when Christ returns to judge the peoples of the earth.
CONCLUSION
6:2c Therefore, since you believers will in the future judge those who do not believe in Christ [MTY],
CONCLSION
6:2d ἀνάξιοι ἐστε κριτηρίων ἐλαχίστων;
6:2d you certainly are competent to judge believers who disagree about these relatively minor matters now. [RHQ]
6:3a And, you need to remember [RHQ]
6:3b that we will even judge angels.
6:3c μήτι γε βιωτικά;
6:3c Therefore, we should all the more be competent to judge fellow believers who dispute about matters which pertain to our living here on earth.
grounds
6:4a Therefore, certainly whenever anyone among you should accuse a fellow believer of acting unjustly toward him before unbelievers in a legal court concerning matters about our living here on earth,
CONCLUSION
6:4b τοὺς ἐξουθενημένους ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ, τούτους καθίζετε;
6:4b you should not act disgracefully [RHQ] by causing people who are considered not qualified spiritually by the community/(OR, whom you despise [IRO]) of believers to decide these [4a] matters [MTY].
motivational grounds
6:5a I say this [4a,b].
6:5b in order that I cause you to be ashamed that you do this
motivational grounds
6:5c οὕτως οὐκ ἔνι ἐν ὑμῖν οὐδεὶς σοφός, ὃς δυνήσεται διακρῖναι ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ;
6:5c Thus, you act as if there is not even one believer who is wise enough to examine and determine whether a fellow believer among you is guilty or is innocent when he is accused by another believer [RHQ, IRO]. That just isn’t true!
6:6a But some of you believers accuse other believers and cause them to be judged by people in a legal court.
6:6b καὶ τοῦτο ἐπὶ ἀπίστων;
6:6b Worse yet, you accuse them in a court of people who do not believe in Christ.
PARAGRAPH CONSTITUENT 6:7-8
POS EXHORTATION
6:7a Certainly you have already completely failed to do what is right.
6:7b not only because you accuse a fellow believer of cheating you in the presence of unbelievers in a legal court
6:7c but because you accuse one another of cheating at all.
SOLUTION
EXHORTATION
6:7d διὰ τί οὐχὶ μᾶλλον ἀδικεῖσθε;
6:7d You should rather allow them to wrong you than to retaliate against [MTY] your fellow believers [RHQ].
6:7e διὰ τί οὐχὶ μᾶλλον ἀποστερεῖσθε;
6:7e Specifically, you should rather allow them to cheat you than to accuse [MTY] them when they cheat you [RHQ].
motivational grounds
6:8a But some of you have accused them of wronging you with the result that you yourselves have been wronging/mistreating them;
6:8b specifically you yourselves have been cheating them, which is bad.
|
6:8c But it is very bad that it is toward fellow believers that you have been doing this [8b]. |

grounds
contrast
6:9a You certainly should know [RHQ]
generic
6:9b ὅτι ἄδικοι θεοῦ βασιλείαν οὐ κληρονομήσουσιν;
6:9b that people who habitually act evilly will not become members of the community of people whom God will rule.
SPECIFIC
GENERIC
6:9c Do not deceive yourselves by allowing others to cause you to think that unrighteous people will become members of the community:
specific
6:9d specifically, neither people who habitually commit sexual immorality
6:9e nor people who worship false gods,
6:9f nor people who habitually commit adultery,
6:9g nor men who habitually allow others to commit homosexual acts with them,
6:9h nor men who habitually commit sexual acts with other men,
6:10a nor people who habitually steal things,
6:10b nor people who habitually covet what other people have,
6:10c nor people who habitually get drunk,
6:10d nor people who habitually talk abusively to other people,
6:10e nor will people who habitually take other people’s things forcefully.
CONTRASTIVE NUCLEUS
6:11a But although some of you were these [9d–10e] types of people,
6:11b nevertheless, your guilt/sin was removed from you by God by means of his forgiving you as dirt is removed from an object by means of washing it [MET],
6:11c and you were set apart by God exclusively for himself
6:11d and you were declared righteous/(OR, no longer guilty) by God
6:11e by means of the Lord Jesus Christ dying on the cross for us [IDM]
6:11f and by means of what the Spirit who comes from God and whom we serve has done for you.
